![]() ![]() ![]() Additionally, the writing is…not fantastic to put it gently. The movie just glosses over it, but the book goes in-depth into characters that have barely any screen time, so it might be worth it to check out the book if you enjoy the movie. Some scenes and character reasonings just make no sense unless you have read the original book. ![]() As for my review, I naturally love it, but there are a few issues. It is directed and produced by Rob Reiner, and stars Cary Elwes as Wesley, Robin Wright as Buttercup, and Chris Sarandon as Prince Humperdinck, and follows the misadventures of Wesley and Buttercup in the days leading up to Buttercup’s marriage to Prince Humperdinck. For some basic background on the movie in case you have never seen it, The Princess Bride is described by Google as a “fantasy adventure comedy film,” but I feel that leaves out a few key elements like a romance, a plot for revenge, and maybe even a bit of horror. I joked that we could watch The Princess Bride instead of our planned next movie, Grand Hotel, and he said that he would be fine with that. Yes, it’s embarrassing, but when you have watched the movie as much as we have, it feels like second nature. The idea came to us after I just started reciting lines and my roommate, Ryan, picked up the next line until we had finished almost an entire scene. It falls in the middle of the pack of movies we’ve watched so far, and I would not say you have to watch it unless you are following along with the challenge.įor the next movie, we decided to go a bit off the rails and pick a movie that we did not even have on the list, but we both love. The worst part of this movie is probably its stereotypes of people of color and some antisemitic parts, but, for the time, it could have probably been worse. Dix carries this movie’s acting with him playing the traditional charismatic cowboy/sheriff that we expect most Westerns to have nowadays, and it’s hard not to root for the Cravat family, even when they make some preposterous decisions that I cannot wrap their heads around. The movie’s plot is simple, but certain scenes just feel really out of place, and it’s almost like little vignettes or snippets from random parts of their lives. The basic plot of this film is that it covers the lives of this homesteading couple as they try to make a life for themselves in the newly established Oklahoma Territory, and the movie pretty much covers their entire lives from their late twenties. The black-and-white film, featuring Richard Dix and Irene Dunne as Yancey and Sabra Cravat, respectively, was directed by Wesley Ruggles and produced by RKO Radio Pictures. The first movie my roommate and I watched was the epic western film Cimarron. Given the years, I feel that you can probably figure out that the one that I obsessively watch over and over again is The Princess Bride it is simply the best movie ever made, but that does not mean I will not criticize it for its faults, of which it has many. One I had never seen before watching, and the other I’ve probably watched two dozen times. On this week’s passion blog, I feature two wildly different movies: Cimarron from 1931 and The Princess Bride from 1987.
